Second Foundation, in cooperation with the Support service for families and Children of the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, has begun renovating the apartment that the Municipality of Novi Grad allocated to the family of a deceased war veteran, after their previous landlord suddenly terminated their accommodation.
The apartment, with an area of 77 square meters, which the family received for a symbolic fee of 0.5 EUR per square meter, had been sealed for a long time, making renovation necessary before moving in.
The first step in the renovation process was replacing the front door, which was old and inadequate for the family's security. In its place, the highest-quality security door was installed, thanks to an anonymous donor, ensuring top-notch protection for the home. This step was not only crucial for security but also brought much-needed relief to the family, who are coping with a significant loss.
The next phase of the renovation involves installing heating in collaboration with Toplane Sarajevo (Central Heating Company Sarajevo), once the relevant Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine (Electricity Distribution Company of Bosnia and Herzegovina) services reconnect the apartment to the electricity grid, as it had been disconnected for an extended period.
These renovations will allow the family, consisting of a mother, two minor sons, and two cousins, to move into a safe, warm, and functional home. Additionally, this project aims to prevent the possibility of the children from being placed in institutions and to provide them with a healthy family environment.
