Last week, Belma Mujezinović, the director of the Second Foundation, spent emotional moments with three children who had recently moved from the Orphanage in Bjelave to the Small Family Home in Marijin Dvor, Sarajevo. Two sisters and a brother are now starting a new phase of life, and to help them feel more secure and happy in their new environment, Fondacija Second organized a shopping trip for new school clothes.
The Small Family Home, as the smallest accommodation unit, enables better social and emotional bonding compared to large institutions. It provides 24-hour social care for children without parental care, aiming to help them grow up in the local community with comprehensive support. This is especially crucial for children who cannot be placed in family care, returned to their biological families or relatives, or for siblings who, due to their numbers, need to stay together.
With much joy and anticipation, the children, along with their caregiver Munevera and director Belma Mujezinović, went on a search for clothes that would help them stand out at school. One of the sweetest moments was when the youngest girl, a first-grader, asked: "Bejmaaa, can I buy these leggings?" as she showed a pair that was too small, but her excitement was priceless.
Director Mujezinović lovingly commented: "The smiles on their faces as they choose their clothes say more than words. These children deserve to be proud of themselves, to feel joy and support, just like all other children."
The little ones eagerly picked out their outfits, choosing items that will accompany them through their school days. Batman designs and floral dresses quickly made their way to the checkout, and the day ended with warm tea in their new home and trying on their new clothes.
These moments are at the heart of Fondacija Second’s mission – to allow children, who are often on the margins of society, to experience the joy of everyday things, to feel seen and proud, and to build a sense of self-worth. Thanks to donations and the support of Fondacija's friends, such events become a reality.
"This is not just about shopping; it’s an investment in their confidence, happiness, and sense of belonging. Elhamdulillah, for the opportunity to be with these children," Belma Mujezinović concluded after an emotional day spent with the children.
