While most of us seek moments of rest on weekends, there are people who turn their free time into kindness. Our dear friend Tarik Smailbegović, former director of the Home for children without parental care in Sarajevo, chose to spend his Saturday morning doing a truly meaningful deed.

Without many words, but with a sincere intention to help, Tarik drove a van carrying a kitchen, carefully crafted by the kind-hearted Senad Lončar in Sarajevo, to a single mother and survivor of domestic violence in a small town in Eastern Bosnia, two hours from the capital.

For this mother, a kitchen is more than just a space for preparing meals. It’s a symbol that she’s not alone — that there are people thinking of her, that her struggle is seen, and that someone cared enough to bring warmth and a sense of safety back into her home.

This is a story about people who never forget those who are going through the hardest times. A story about friendship, humanity, and small gestures that change lives.

"Even though you wished to remain in the background, thank you, Tarik, for your time, effort, and the compassion you show so tirelessly. And thank you to Senad Lončar, whose hardworking hands and noble heart help turn ruins into safe and dignified places to live," said Belma Mujezinović, director of the Second Foundation.

The words of gratitude from the mother who received this help were especially moving:

"I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. May dear Allah grant you health and every happiness. A thousand thanks to our Senad — may Allah bless him and his family with all the best. And Belma, thank you too, sincerely, because none of this would have been possible without you."

Let this story be a reminder to all of us that every day is a chance to be a better human being.
