For the past four years, Foundation Second has been organizing various workshops, excursions, and camping trips for children without parental care, with the goal of providing them with the childhood experiences they deserve. A special place in these activities belongs to a house in Ledići — a mountain retreat granted to the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo for use by the proBITRA Foundation. This house on the slopes of the mountain, surrounded by forest and fresh air, has become a place where children learn to prepare pita and traditional Bosnian dishes, take walks through the village, spend time in nature, and gain new, valuable experiences.
To ensure the children’s stay is of the highest quality, Foundation Second has, from the very beginning, paid close attention to the nutrition of the little ones who come to the mountains. Organically grown fruits and vegetables, homemade juices, healthy spreads, and fresh seasonal produce are purchased from Korpa zdravlja, a local store that has nurtured a culture of natural farming and healthy food for years.
A particularly touching moment took place during Ramadan, when Korpa zdravlja donated products worth 100 EUR for the girls from the Home who spent a weekend in the mountain house. With healthy iftars and suhoors, time in nature, and conversations under the stars, the girls had the opportunity to feel the warmth of togetherness and attention that they often miss.
The director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, emphasized how important it is for children to have access to quality food, especially when spending time in nature:
"We believe that healthy nutrition shapes children’s health, but also their mood and energy. Our wish is to plant our own garden in the near future, grow our own fruits and vegetables, and we hope to soon receive a greenhouse so we can teach children the values of work, nature, and caring about what we eat."
Foundation Second will continue to invest in programs and activities that bring joy, new experiences, and healthy growth to children without parental care — because every child deserves a chance to simply be a child.
