This year, the director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, wanted to make the penultimate iftar of Ramadan special for children from the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo. The plan was to organize the iftar at Yellow Fortress, where the children could break their fast outdoors while listening to the traditional cannon shot and enjoying a panoramic view of Sarajevo on a Ramadan evening. Unfortunately, due to rain and unfavorable weather, they had to find an alternative solution.
“We searched for options, called around, made inquiries… And just as we were about to give up on the whole idea, a call came that delighted us all. The owners of Aeroplan Restaurant, where we had already organized an iftar earlier, offered to host the children once again. In a very short time, they prepared everything for around 40 children who were supposed to be at Tabija,” said Director Mujezinović.
Special guests at this iftar were also two boys from the Small family home in Blagovac near Vogošća, whom the director of the Home for children without parental care, Muhamed Musić, brought before iftar so they could join the other children. After the communal iftar, Director Mujezinović took the boys to perform the teravih prayer. One of them, a scholarship holder of Foundation Second, always wishes to pray at least one teravih in the Gazi Husrev-bey's Mosque — a wish she fulfilled for him once again this year.
“The happiness on that boy’s face when we walk out of the mosque is something I can’t describe in words. He experiences it so sincerely, and for me, it’s an honor and a duty to make it happen for him. No other obligation that day was more important, because for these children, those aren’t small things — they’re memories that stay with them for life,” added Mujezinović.
The evening ended with smiles and full hearts, and the owners of Aeroplan Restaurant surprised the children by gifting them Bajramluk (Eid gifts) at the end of the iftar, for which the director of the Home for children without parental care extended sincere thanks.
“This is yet another proof that good people and sincere intentions can brighten a child’s day — and sometimes their entire life. For these children, the warmth of togetherness and the feeling that someone is thinking of them is the most precious gift,” said Director Belma Mujezinović.
