On the spiritually significant 27th night of Ramadan, Restaurant Nova Bentbaša once again opened its doors to children without parental care, continuing a tradition it has upheld for four years. This time, iftar was prepared for 15 children from the Reception department of the Public institution Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, who, accompanied by their caregivers, experienced an evening filled with kindness, warmth, and joy.
As in previous years, the restaurant staff and owners went above and beyond to make the children feel a sense of belonging and care, with lovingly prepared meals and an atmosphere that resembled a true family home. Each child also received a gift appropriate for their age, carefully selected by the hosts – another reminder that they are not forgotten.
After the iftar, two girls – a thirteen-year-old and an eight-year-old – went to perform the isha and tarawih prayers at the Emperor’s Mosque, which was filled to capacity that evening. A particularly touching detail of the night was the fact that both girls had fasted for the entire month of Ramadan, and, as a gesture of recognition and encouragement, they were treated to a special Eid shopping trip for new clothes – a moment they will cherish for a long time.
On this occasion, Belma Mujezinović, director of Foundation Second, which stands behind many such initiatives, stated:
“The iftar at Bentbaša holds a special place in my heart. One group of children had their very first iftar right here, which I organized four years ago, when I had only five iftars planned for the entire Ramadan. This Ramadan, four years later, iftars were organized nearly every evening. Growing with this journey has been beautiful, but what hasn’t changed is the love and sincere intention with which we do this.”
Once again, Restaurant Nova Bentbaša has shown that the true value of iftar is not measured by the abundance of the table, but by the sincere intention to bring joy during Ramadan to those who don’t have their family by their side. We thank them for giving the children from the Home moments worthy of memories, year after year.
