Last Sunday’s cloudy weather failed to dampen the spirits of the youngest residents of the Home for children without parental care and the children with developmental difficulties from the Small family home in Sarajevo, who spent an unforgettable weekend in Ledići, on the slopes of Bjelašnica Mountain. Foundation Second, the organizer of their mountain stay, initially had different plans for the last day of the trip. However, at the last moment, they decided to visit the well-known Fishpond in the village of Dejčići, where they spent the day bonding with animals and walking to the waterfall of the Bijela River.

Fearless little ones excitedly petted a dog who patiently sat, enjoying their tiny hands. Other children, amidst much laughter, tried to pet the chickens, but the birds were quicker—leading to a joyful chase filled with giggles.

As always, the volunteers of Foundation Second ensured that the children received all the attention, warmth, and love they needed. They carried them on their shoulders, pushed them on swings, walked with them, hugged them, and told them stories—turning this day into yet another precious memory. Every moment was filled with joy and tenderness.

In one of those heartwarming moments, volunteer Sanela Pačariz asked a little girl who shyly clung to her:

"What’s your name?"

"Ajša," the girl replied with the sweetest smile, revealing a few recently missing baby teeth.

"And what’s my name?" Sanela asked with a chuckle.

The little girl thought for a moment, then cheerfully replied:

"My mom."

As they prepared to leave, the children bid an emotional farewell to the local cats that had visited them throughout the weekend, seeking affection and food. Each child wanted one last chance to stroke the soft fur of their new four-legged friends, gently petting them and whispering quiet goodbyes.

As they drove away, they kept turning back, waving at the cats who watched them curiously. But as soon as the bus started winding down the mountain roads, exhaustion from the fun-filled weekend slowly took over. One by one, they curled up in their seats, leaning on each other, their smiles revealing how full their hearts were.

Ledići and Bjelašnica were now behind them, but in the children’s dreams, nature continued to embrace, and people continued to give love.
