On the first day of February, 15 residents of the Home for children without parental care, along with their caretakers, woke up in the warmth of a mountain house in the village of Ledići on Bjelašnica. This house, provided for the needs of the children by the proBITRA Foundation for a period of 99 years, has been equipped and insulated thanks to the support of Foundation Second and its donors. It now serves as a safe haven for the children, where they can spend their free time, learn, and enjoy nature.
Accompanied by their caregivers, the children arrived for a winter retreat to experience the magic of the mountains. Their stay and all activities were organized by Foundation Second, which has been successfully collaborating with the Home for three years, providing support through various projects and initiatives.
The youngest ones were particularly thrilled with the playground in the yard of a local home, where the owners warmly welcomed them. They gleefully slid down the slide and swung on the swings, enjoying carefree play.
Older children, despite developmental challenges, found joy in flying kites on a spacious meadow and playing with balloons.
Upon returning, while waiting for lunch, they petted local cats that frequently visited the house in search of attention and a meal—none of which were ever denied.
For dinner, the Home’s chef, Nedžad Mešić, prepared a healthy spelt pasta with nettle, beetroot, and wild garlic, accompanied by a refreshing fruit salad made from organic fruits.
Before bedtime, volunteers spent time with the children in the warmth of the fireplace lounge. They painted their faces, colored in coloring books, and played with plush toys provided by Foundation Second thanks to donor support. By the end of the evening, each child took a plush companion to bed, adding extra warmth and a sense of security to their night.
