The Family support service at the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Social work service, Foundation Second, the Pomozi.ba Association, and the Parents' council of the "Aleksa Šantić" Primary school, successfully carried out a relief campaign for the family of a deceased disabled war veteran. The family was provided with a social apartment by the Municipality of Novi Grad, and with the help of donors, the apartment was renovated and fully equipped for living.

This five-member family, who had been part of the Support service program for the past eight months, includes two cousins reintegrated from the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo into the family of their uncle, a disabled war veteran. His wife, along with their two sons, decided to provide a home and love to their relatives. Unfortunately, the disabled war veteran passed away before the family moved into the allocated apartment, leaving his wife to care for four minor children on her own.

Foundation Second, in cooperation with the Family support service, launched a series of activities to create living conditions for this family. Through the Pomozi.ba Association, the replacement of external carpentry was ensured, while new anti-burglary entrance doors, a refrigerator, and a stove were donated thanks to the efforts of Foundation Second. Over the course of eight months, Pomozi.ba and Foundation Second provided financial and material assistance to the family while they were living in a rented apartment from which the landlord eventually terminated their lease. Additionally, an employee of the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo decided to cover the rent costs for the social apartment for an entire year, ensuring the family’s stability for the near future.

The greatest support came from the Parents' council of the "Aleksa Šantić" Primary school in Sarajevo, which one of the family's children attends. They took the initiative and organized a humanitarian campaign at the school, resulting in the renovation of the apartment in just 41 days.

"The Parents' council expresses great satisfaction and joy in once again demonstrating that when there is the will, desire, and readiness to help someone, anything is truly possible," said Azra Čolpa, President of the Council. She also noted that the project included renovating the bathroom and kitchen, replacing internal carpentry and electrical installations, installing laminate flooring, building a new kitchen, and acquiring furniture and household appliances.

"Through joint efforts, we managed to provide this family with the security and home they deserve. This project demonstrates how much we can achieve when we unite for the benefit of those most in need," said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.

Amina Pohara, Head of the Family support service, emphasized the importance of collaboration and empathy: "This is not just about helping one family; it is a message that no child should be forgotten and that the community has the strength to provide support and security during difficult times."

Thanks to joint efforts, this family now has a home filled with love and warmth. This story serves as a reminder of the importance of humanity and solidarity in creating a better society for all.
