Foundation Second, with the support of its friends and donors, has for the first time this year organized and fully financed a joint iftar for children without parental care outside Sarajevo, thus expanding its Ramadan activities to other cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The first iftar of this kind was organized for the beneficiaries of JU Dom-porodica Zenica, whose caregivers expressed the wish to take the children out of their everyday institutional environment during the month of Ramadan and provide them with an evening in an atmosphere resembling a family setting. The selected venue for the joint iftar was Restaurant Salčinović, located in close proximity to their institution.
For this occasion, the caregivers, in agreement with the children, selected a menu they enjoy the most, while the restaurant owner, Nasir Salčinović, offered a discounted price for the iftar. Thanks to this support, the price per person amounted to 10 EUR, and Foundation Second allocated a total of 350 EUR for the iftar for 35 attendees – 30 fasting children and five caregivers accompanying them.
The children spent the Ramadan evening in a warm atmosphere of togetherness, away from their daily routine, with a sense of care and belonging that moments like these bring. How much this outing meant to them is reflected in the smiles and joy captured in the event photos.
The Director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, who unfortunately could not attend the iftar due to numerous obligations in Sarajevo, emphasized that such moments represent the very essence of the Foundation’s Ramadan activities:
"Although I truly wished to be with the children in Zenica at this, for us, important first iftar outside Sarajevo, the obligations we simultaneously had in Sarajevo did not allow me to do so. Nevertheless, the fact that with the help of our donors we managed to provide the children with such an evening fills me with great joy. Ramadan is a time of togetherness, and for children growing up without parental care, moments like these mean far more than just a meal – they create memories and a sense of belonging that lasts long after the iftar ends."
Foundation Second plans to continue organizing iftars for children without parental care in other cities as well, with the hope of treating the children from Zenica to at least one more joint iftar during this Ramadan.
