Foundation Second continues its support for children without parental care in the second school term through a weekend program at the Association for the Upbringing and Education of Women and Children Bistri Izvor — a place that has become a safe station, a space of belonging and growth for many of them, not just a classroom.

The program includes children from the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, as well as children from four Small Family Homes: Sokolović Kolonija, Blagovac, Kovačići, and Marijin Dvor. Every weekend, the children are accompanied by Foundation Second Director Belma Mujezinović, and from this term two volunteers have joined — Nedžma Selimović and Senada, who also attend Qur’an classes at this school. The children know them well, feel close to them, and they understand their journey — which makes a huge difference in learning.

Weekends that build safety and self-confidence

During these weekend gatherings, a rhythm is slowly formed that means far more to the children than just a lesson. After a week filled with changes, rules, and often quiet inner struggles, Bistri Izvor becomes a place where they can breathe, relax their shoulders, and simply be children. Here, learning is not experienced as an obligation, but as a process in which someone sits beside them, listens, and guides them patiently, without rushing.

The youngest among them are only beginning to explore the world through play, movement, and touch, learning that it is safe to explore, ask questions, and laugh. The girls who have started their first steps in learning the Arabic alphabet slowly build letter by letter, carrying pride when they recognize what they learned the day before. The older children work in a small group, in an environment tailored specifically for them, where attention, communication, and self-confidence develop alongside academic knowledge. Their progress is not fast, but it is deep — exactly what they need.

They finished the previous term with a sense of achievement that could be seen in their posture and in the way they supported one another. Everything planned within the program was successfully completed, and that result is more than an educational milestone — it is proof that stability, continuity, and care can change how a child sees themselves.

Before Ramadan: Support that remains

As Ramadan approaches, these gatherings gain an even deeper, quieter meaning. A time when we are reminded of the value of knowledge, patience, and care for others takes on a real face here — in the children’s effort to learn, their desire to belong, and the feeling that someone thinks of them even after the weekend ends. Supporting their arrival, learning, and sense of safety means becoming part of a chain of goodness that may not always be visible, but stays in their hearts.

However, for this rhythm to remain unbroken, it is necessary to ensure that children can attend regularly. The journey to Bistri Izvor is not just a geographical distance, but a bridge between everyday life and a place where they feel accepted. From this year, support in covering transportation costs becomes essential so that their learning, friendships, and sense of belonging can continue without interruption.

Because sometimes the greatest support for a child is not a grand gesture, but a safe arrival at a place where someone is waiting for them.
