Children without parental care from the Bjelave Home in Sarajevo participate in various activities throughout the year – creative, educational, and recreational – including during the summer holidays. However, these activities usually take place in smaller groups, divided by age, schedule, or available capacity. It is rare for all 70–80 children to go somewhere together – as one big group, or as they like to say themselves – as one big family.
That’s why the trips organized by Foundation Second during the summer holidays are so special and priceless.
For the fourth year in a row, with the help of donors and friends of the Foundation, we’ve been organizing full-day excursions for all the children from the Home, taking them across the country – to Jajce, Travnik, Stolac, Jablanica Lake, Ravna Planina, Jahorina, and to the Ribica pools in Vitez…
These are days when no child is left behind. Days when they all feel the joy of travel, nature, play, hugs – and belonging.
"The children from the Home truly function like one big family. Group trips mean more than fun – they represent a sense of belonging, safety, and full hearts. It’s a day when they are all together, equal, smiling. And those moments become lifelong memories," said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.
Organizing such a day for 70–80 children takes serious logistics – transportation, meals, activities, safety… But when you see the smiles and hugs at the end of the day, you know it was worth every effort.
This summer, we hope to give them another such day.
Another day full of joy and carefree moments.
