After electricity was reconnected for a mother of two from Sarajevo—thanks to the donors of Foundation Second and the understanding shown by Elektroprivreda BiH—following nine months of darkness and cold, the family was visited by the Mobile family and child support team of the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo.

This team regularly visits the family, as the mother and children are included in their support program as a family at risk of separation. Their continuous presence and on-site monitoring are key to preventing the children from being removed and placed into institutional care.
The electricity, restored after such a long period, has brought enormous relief to their lives: the mother can now cook a warm meal, the children can watch television and play in the evening under the light, and for the first time in many months their home meets the basic conditions for a dignified life.
Thanks to its donors, Foundation Second provided the family with a package of food and essential supplies as emergency support for the coming days.

Foundation Second has also initiated the purchase of a refrigerator, as the family does not have one at all. This appliance will allow the mother to store food safely and provide her children with regular, nutritious meals.
At the same time, since there is no wood stove in the home and the cold days have already arrived, the procurement of a new, safe, and functional stove has begun. It will allow the mother to heat the space and create a warmer, safer environment for her children.
A wood stove is especially important for this family, as they are currently heating their home with only a small electric convector, which is not only insufficient in winter conditions but also significantly increases electricity consumption and the risk of new debts.

During the appeal, Foundation Second raised funds not only to cover the outstanding electricity debt, but also for the next two bills, providing the family with stability at a time when warmth is most needed.
“Our goal was not only to reconnect the electricity, but to ensure stability. Since the family heats with a convector, it was important to secure funds for the upcoming bills as well. We are now working on purchasing a wood stove, because children deserve warmth during the winter and conditions in which they can live safely and with dignity,” said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.

Amina Pohara, Head of the Family and child support service, emphasized the importance of regular visits and joint action:
“The family is in our program and the mobile team visits them regularly. Interventions like this—made possible by Foundation Second — are crucial for keeping the children with their mother. We will continue to monitor their needs and work together to improve their living conditions.”
Thanks to the quick response of donors, the support of institutions, and joint efforts, this family now lives more safely, warmly, and with greater hope.
🤍 Thank you to everyone who is part of this story. Together, we continue to care for families at risk.
