After months of hardship in which life placed obstacle after obstacle before this single mother of two, Foundation Second has continued to provide support to help make their home safer, warmer, and more dignified for the children growing up in it.
After settling the electricity debt and restoring power, the Foundation provided a wood-burning stove, giving the family a stable source of heating at last, as well as a refrigerator, essential for safely storing food and preparing meals for the children. A new electricity bill was also paid to ensure the mother does not fall back into the risk of losing power again during the winter months.
When we visited her, she welcomed us quietly but with heartfelt gratitude. The refrigerator stood empty — the mother had nothing to put inside. This is why we once again ensured she received basic food supplies and household necessities, so she can feed her children without fear in the coming weeks.
The children were especially happy about the croissants and snacks; they immediately reached for them and sat down to eat. In a home where daily struggle is the norm, such small moments of joy are precious.
However, the mother also shared a new worry — a water bill debt of around 150 EUR, which once again threatens the stability of the household. On top of everything else, a washing machine would greatly help her, as she currently washes all clothing by hand, a task that takes time, strength, and adds to her already heavy burden of caring for her children.
This family is included in the Family and child support service program of the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, as it was assessed that there is a risk of family separation — that is, the possibility that the children may be removed from their mother and placed into an alternative care institution. The program is focused on preserving the family unit, providing continuous support, and preventing the institutionalization of children whenever possible.
“These are families who live day by day, and every new expense can push them a step closer to the risk of separation. That is why we are here — to respond in time and ensure the children remain with their mothers,” said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.
Foundation Second continues to support this family, as well as many others at risk, because every bill paid, every stove, refrigerator, washing machine, or food package — makes the difference between a child remaining in their home or losing it.
