After nine long months spent in darkness and cold, a single mother of two from Sarajevo finally has electricity in her home again. Thanks to the kind people who responded to the appeal launched by Foundation Second, donations were collected to cover the outstanding debt. With the compassion and understanding of Elektroprivreda BiH, the family was reconnected to the power grid.

The mother, who is also expecting her third child, had been living without the most basic living conditions — no light, no heating, and no way to cook a warm meal for her children. Today, their home is once again filled with warmth, the smell of food, and the sound of children’s laughter.
Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second, emphasized how compassion and solidarity can truly change lives:
“Our appeal lasted only a few days, yet the response was overwhelming. People recognized the seriousness of the situation and reacted with their hearts. We are especially grateful to the Elektroprivreda BiH management for their empathy and quick action — they proved that behind institutions stand people who care. These children now live in a warm and bright home again, which is the greatest reward for all of us.”
Amine Pohara, Head of the Family and child support service at the Public institution home for Children without parental care Sarajevo, added:
“This family was at risk of separation, and interventions like this are crucial to prevent that. Thanks to Foundation Second and its donors, the mother once again has the basic living conditions to stay together with her children. That means safety, dignity, and a step toward stability.”
Thanks to everyone who called 17077, made a donation, or shared the story — another family at risk will now fall asleep tonight under the light, both literally and symbolically.
Thank you for helping us bring light back into their home.
