In one of Sarajevo’s social shelters lives a single mother with two little children — and a third on the way. Her husband left her, and she struggles each day to survive — without a job, without income, and without electricity for nine months now.
Their everyday life is reduced to pure survival: the children warm themselves under a blanket and go to sleep as soon as it gets dark. Instead of play and laughter, their small room is filled with silence and waiting — waiting for warmer days, for the sun to shine a little through the window.
The mother was recently included in the Family and child support service program of the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, as the family is at risk of separation — that is, of the children being taken from their mother and placed in an institution.
The electricity debt amounts to 300 KM by lawsuit – the amount that separates them from conditions worthy of human life and a safe home. So little, yet it means everything.
