In Eastern Bosnia, a single mother — a survivor of domestic violence — is, for the first time in a long while, feeling peace and gratitude. Thanks to the selfless support of kind people and the help of the Second Foundation, a new, functional kitchen was installed in her modest home, where she lives with her mother and son.

The kitchen was crafted by Senad Lončar, a carpenter from Sarajevo, who donated his work as a gesture of support for this brave woman and her child. Foundation Second covered the cost of 150 EUR for the materials and parts that the carpenter wasn’t able to provide, ensuring the kitchen was fully completed and ready for use.
Along with the kitchen, Senad packed another, very special parcel – a box full of toy cars. “For the boy,” he said modestly, not seeking any gratitude. That box arrived at the home together with the kitchen and brought the biggest smile of the day, reminding everyone how much joy a simple gesture can bring.
This is not the first time the Foundation has supported this family. Over the past year, they have consistently followed their needs: providing a new stove, refrigerator, mattresses, pillows, blankets, bedding, clothing, as well as financial aid paid in several installments. Thanks to this ongoing support, the daily life of the mother and her child has gradually become more manageable.
Carpenter Senad Lončar had previously joined the effort to help this family by donating a handcrafted chest of drawers and two beds, made with care and a deep understanding of the needs of a family rebuilding their life from scratch.
When the transport of donated furniture from Sarajevo was needed, the Foundation covered one delivery, while the second was made free of charge thanks to the former director of the Bjelave Children's Home, Tarik Smailbegović, who personally delivered the items during one of his free weekends.
This story is not just about a kitchen, mattresses, or a chest of drawers. It is a story about dignity being restored step by step, about solidarity, and how small yet meaningful acts can truly change lives.
Foundation Second continues its work in the field, firmly believing that no one should be forgotten—especially those who have survived violence and are now trying to build a safer future for their children.
