Life has never been easy for this family, and after the death of the husband and father, the widow was faced with countless challenges. Forced to leave their previous accommodation, she and her five children were left without a roof over their heads, without security, and without the basic conditions for a normal life. In those most difficult moments, Second Foundation did not stay silent.
Thanks to generous donors, Second Foundation responded immediately — covering rent costs of 75 EUR per month for an apartment secured by social worker Abida Pilav, as well as utility bills totaling an additional 35 EUR. In addition, friends of the Foundation donated a television and wardrobes, while the Foundation purchased a washing machine, refrigerator, and stove to help this mother care for her children with dignity. Before winter, firewood and several food packages were also provided to help them get through the toughest period.
Recently, Second Foundation paid the third month’s rent for this family, made possible by incoming donations. However, living expenses continue to pile up. The family still urgently needs regular food packages, and most importantly — continued support for rent and utility bills to prevent them from losing their home again.
On this occasion, Amina Pohara, Head of the family and child support service at the Cantonal public institution Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, whose program currently includes this family, shared a statement:
“This family has endured a devastating loss, and it’s our duty to do everything we can to keep the children with their mother and provide them with a safe, stable childhood. Thanks to Second Foundation and kind-hearted people, they now have a roof over their heads and basic living conditions. However, the struggle is not over. Ongoing financial support for rent, utilities, and regular food packages remains essential. Every contribution means a lot to this family, and we sincerely thank all those who have helped so far.”
