Every stay at the Small Family Home in Ledići, operated by the Second Foundation in partnership with the Canton Public Institution Home for Children Without Parental Care Sarajevo, gives children the opportunity to gain new knowledge, develop practical skills, and create lasting memories through time spent in nature.

During one of their recent stays in Ledići, the children joined Second Foundation Director Belma Mujezinović in picking fragrant elderflowers that bloom across the meadows and forest paths of Bjelašnica at this time of year. With great enthusiasm, they learned how to identify elderflowers, why they are harvested during their blooming season, and how these blossoms are traditionally used to prepare one of the region's most beloved homemade drinks.
The flowers they collected together were later used to make homemade elderflower juice, a refreshing drink the children especially enjoy during the warm summer days. This gave them the opportunity to see how nature can become part of everyday life and how simple, fresh ingredients can be transformed into a delicious and refreshing beverage.
In addition to its pleasant taste, elderflower has long been valued for its beneficial properties. Its blossoms contain natural antioxidants and vitamin C and have traditionally been used to support overall well-being and provide refreshment during the warmer months.
A stay in Ledići offers children much more than just a holiday. Through activities like these, they discover the world of plants, develop respect for nature, and learn to appreciate the effort behind homemade products. At the same time, they strengthen friendships, build mutual trust, and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.
These are the moments that make the Small Family Home in Ledići truly special—a place where children learn not only from books but also through experience, nature, and meaningful time spent together.
