Foundation Second, together with the Sarajevo Home for Children Without Parental Care, is already preparing the Small Family Home in Ledići for a summer filled with children's laughter.

Over the coming weeks, we will welcome children from several institutions and organizations across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Our guests will include children from children's homes in Tuzla, Mostar and Zenica, children from a children's home in Montenegro, young people from the Sarajevo Canton Juvenile Education Centre, members of the Association for People with Special Needs from Eastern Bosnia, as well as many other groups of children and young people to whom we want to offer a few unforgettable days of rest, friendship and time in nature.
For many of them, this will be their first opportunity to enjoy simple yet invaluable experiences: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding animals, hiking mountain trails, experiencing the peace and quiet of the countryside, spending evenings under the stars, and sharing meals outdoors.
That is why we want the courtyard of our Small Family Home to become a place children will always look forward to returning to.
A barbecue, a swing and an outdoor living room
In front of the house stands a century-old apple tree, a tree that has witnessed generations and decades of life in Ledići. Its branches provide natural shade, and beneath them we envision the heart of this space—a place for gathering, relaxation and children's laughter.
That is why we want to create a true outdoor living room beneath its canopy.
Instead of a traditional garden furniture set, we would like to create a space where children can spend time together rather than sitting separately. We are looking for comfortable bean bags, lounge seating or similar outdoor furniture that allows several children to relax together. We want to create a place where they can read, play board games, talk, draw, relax after hiking or simply lie in the shade while looking up at the apple tree and the surrounding mountains.

We also need a high-quality outdoor barbecue where children, caregivers and volunteers can gather together. Preparing meals together in Ledići has always been one of the highlights of every stay. Children learn, help, laugh and create memories that remain with them for years to come.
Perhaps the most special addition to this courtyard would be a large swing suspended from the strong branch of the century-old apple tree—a place where children can swing, laugh and simply enjoy being children.
The Small Family Home in Ledići is not a tourist accommodation. It is a safe and welcoming place for children without parental care, children with developmental disabilities, families at risk and other vulnerable groups, where they can experience the warmth of a home, the beauty of nature and the carefree joy of childhood.
Here we grow vegetables, cook together, care for animals, learn through play and spend days that often become some of childhood's happiest memories.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to create memories that last a lifetime. A few comfortable places in the shade, a shared meal, a swing beneath a century-old apple tree and a true sense of belonging—these are the moments children remember forever.
