Foundation Second continues to provide tangible support to the most vulnerable members of society. This time, in cooperation with the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, a new 80-liter water heater has been provided for the Small family home in Kovačići, which operates as part of this institution.

Currently, five children with developmental disabilities live in this warm and caring home, and the previous, smaller water heater could no longer meet the daily needs of the children and staff. The replacement was necessary and urgent.
“For children growing up without parental care, especially those with developmental difficulties, every little improvement that makes their daily life easier carries enormous significance. We are happy we could help and contribute to better living conditions in the Small Family Home in Kovačići. We will continue to be a source of support wherever we can,” said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.
What Are Small Family Homes?
Small family homes represent a special form of care for children without parental care, designed to provide a warmer and more natural environment resembling a family setting. It is a residential social protection service that ensures 24-hour care for children in social need, without parental support.
Unlike large institutions where children are accommodated based on age, a Small family home is the smallest residential unit, allowing for stronger social and emotional connections between the children and the caregivers. In this environment, children have the opportunity to actively participate in creating daily responsibilities and routines, developing a sense of responsibility and learning about the division of roles in shared living.
The goal of Small family homes is to provide children with comprehensive support while they grow up within their local communities, involved in everyday activities and social life, just like most of their peers. These homes aim to offer children a sense of safety, belonging, and the possibility of healthy development in a natural, family-like setting.
Foundation Second remains committed to creating better living conditions for children without parental care, and this donation is just one of many steps taken to brighten and ease the everyday lives of those who need help the most.
