Even after Ramadan, stories remain that remind us of what matters most – of kindness that is learned, but also sincerely felt.

One such story comes from Maarif International School Isa-beg Ishaković, where students launched a humanitarian initiative during the month of Ramadan symbolically named "Give Something of Yours".

With the support and encouragement of school psychologist Rejhana Helja, who guided them throughout the entire process and coordinated the initiative by contacting organizations on behalf of the school, the students showed remarkable maturity and a genuine desire to help others.

Guided by the idea that everyone can give something – not necessarily something new, but something they already have – they decided to collect: school supplies, hygiene items, books, sweets, and toys.

Everything collected was carefully sorted and beautifully packed, with a clear intention to bring joy to children and families who need support the most.

Conversations that change perspectives

The donation was personally received on behalf of Foundation Second by its director, Belma Mujezinović, who used the opportunity to speak with the students – the initiators of this meaningful story.

The meeting became much more than just the handover of donations.

The children asked questions that reflected deep empathy and genuine curiosity: why some children grow up without parents, what their everyday life looks like, and whether what they collected would truly help.

In response, the director emphasized:

"What you have done has great value – not only in the things you collected, but in the care and compassion you showed. The children this support is intended for will feel it. And even more importantly – today you learned how important it is to think of others."

It was especially highlighted that initiatives like this have long-term importance, as they help shape generations who understand, empathize, and take action.

An invitation that brings children together

As a continuation of this encounter, the students were invited to visit the Small Family Home in Ledići, where Foundation Second organizes activities for children without parental care.

They happily accepted the idea of spending time during their school break with peers who are currently growing up within the alternative care system.

Because such encounters hold special value – they break down differences, build understanding, and remind us that all children are, above all, simply children who seek play, attention, and friendship.

This story is not only about a donation.

It is a story about children who chose to share something of their own, about a teacher who encouraged and guided them, and about small steps that create meaningful change.

Because sometimes it is enough to “give something of your own” – for someone to feel they are not forgotten.
