This summer, three children with developmental disabilities from the Small family home in Kovačići, which operates under the Cantonal public institution “Home for children without parental care” Sarajevo, spent a day in the natural surroundings of Ledići. They were accompanied by their caregivers and two other little ones currently residing in the same home.

The children joined a group of fifteen peers who were already staying at the house in Ledići, which has a capacity of 24 beds, making this gathering an even richer summer experience.
The house as a refuge for children
The house in Ledići, granted to the Home for children without parental care Sarajevo by the Probitra Foundation for a period of 99 years, has become a place where children without parental care have the opportunity to stay in nature, away from their everyday environment. Thanks to its partners and donors, Foundation Second ensured the house was insulated and furnished, creating conditions for the children to experience the warmth of home.

The value of a one-day gathering
Although their stay lasted only one day, the experience of companionship and joint activities in nature had a strong impact on the children. Spending time outdoors, surrounded by peers and embraced by nature, fostered a sense of belonging and joy. For children with developmental disabilities, each of these moments carries added value – the chance to be part of a group, to connect, and to enjoy the beauty of childhood.

This day in Ledići once again highlighted how important initiatives are that bring together children with different needs and life circumstances, and how much cooperation between institutions and foundations can do to enrich their everyday lives with warmth, care, and togetherness.
