Before every trip to our Small Family Home in Ledići, we have one special tradition – shopping together.
This time, four girls eagerly took their baskets and shopping bags as we headed to the store together. We walked through the aisles choosing fruit, snacks, groceries for breakfast and dinner, but also something that was just as important to them – food for the rescued cats that are always waiting for them in Ledići.
At first glance, it may seem like an ordinary shopping trip. However, for children without parental care, it carries a much deeper meaning. It is an opportunity to plan together, discuss what we need, learn how to shop responsibly, weigh fruit, choose products, and make sure nothing is forgotten.
Each of the girls found her own role. One weighed the fruit, another carefully pushed the shopping cart, the third proudly carried the bags, while the fourth checked that we had everything we needed. The pride on their faces as they left the store spoke louder than words.
It is these seemingly ordinary moments that make our programme in Ledići so special. The children do not come only for an outing. Together, they experience the entire process – from preparing for the trip and shopping, to cooking, working in the organic garden, caring for the rescued cats, and enjoying life together in nature.
We believe that the most important life lessons are often learned through the simplest everyday activities. That is why our shopping trip before leaving for Ledići has long become one of our favourite traditions.
