From the very first day that the proBITRA Foundation granted the 100-year-old house in Ledići for use by the Sarajevo Home for Children Without Parental Care, large rocks that had been falling for years from a dilapidated old house on the neighboring property posed one of the main challenges in the yard of the Small Family Home.
Because of their size and weight, removing the rocks was impossible without an excavator, so the task remained unfinished for years.
As work on improving the yard continued this summer, Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second, which manages the Small Family Home in Ledići in partnership with the Sarajevo Home for Children Without Parental Care, asked their neighbor Mustafa if he would be willing to help remove the rocks.
Mustafa agreed without hesitation.
He arrived with his excavator and carefully removed the large rocks that had stood beside the home for years, clearing the area so that the children can now enjoy an even safer space for playing, spending time together, and enjoying nature.
After the work was completed, the Foundation's Director tried to pay him for his work.
Mustafa refused to accept any payment.
He offered all of his help completely free of charge, believing that being able to do something useful for the children was reward enough.
People like Mustafa remind us that strong communities are built not only through major projects, but also through the willingness to help one another when it is needed most.
From the very beginning, the residents of Ledići have provided tremendous support to the development of the Small Family Home. Through their work, advice, and kindness, they have become an essential part of a story that offers children without parental care a safe place to rest, learn, and grow.
