On Earth Day, while the world talks about protecting nature, in Ledići that idea is lived – quietly, meaningfully, and together.

Small Family Home in Ledići, run by Foundation Second together with the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, has been granted the use of a plot of land by the proBITRA Foundation with a clear purpose: to restore it, cultivate it, and turn it into a space of real value – for the children who come here. For them, this is not just land, but an opportunity to learn, to create, and to see how something tangible and meaningful can grow from effort.

The plot we found was neglected. Unmowed for years, overgrown with weeds and filled with stones, it seemed like a space that nature had already taken back. Yet, it is precisely in such places that the greatest potential often lies – all it takes is a little will, many hands, and a sincere intention.
The first steps were not easy. Clearing, removing stones, preparing the soil – all of this required time and effort. But Ledići once again showed what makes it special: when something good is being done, no one stays aside.
Support from the neighbors
Mirnes, a neighbor from nearby Dujmovići, did not hesitate to offer his help and plowed the land free of charge, turning neglected ground into soil ready for a new beginning. Soon after, another neighbor, Meho, who raises sheep, cows, and goats, joined in by donating natural fertilizer to give strength to the land for what lies ahead. His support did not stop there – with the help of friends, he also organized transport to deliver the fertilizer to the plot.

What followed was a scene that best reflects the spirit of Ledići: together with volunteers, the fertilizer was spread by hand across the land, just before a heavy rain swept through the area. The rain that followed was not an obstacle – it was an ally. It soaked the soil, blended everything that had been prepared with care, and gave the first sign that nature responds to effort.

In the meantime, other neighbors also came by – not only to see what we were doing, but to offer words of support, advice, or simply to share in the joy of new life returning to this land.
For the children who will learn and grow here
This plot is not just a piece of land we are cultivating. It is a space where children will learn how to plant, how to care, and how to wait for something to grow. A place where they will understand the value of work, but also the beauty of togetherness. What we are doing today, we are doing for their visits, for their weekends, for their first successes when something they planted begins to grow.

On Earth Day, we may not yet be harvesting the fruits – but we are building the foundations for them. And not only in the soil, but in the children who will grow alongside it.
And right here, in Ledići, that story carries a special meaning.
