Another Ramadan weekend in the Small Family Home in Ledići with girls without parental care is behind us. The girls were accompanied during the weekend by the director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, together with volunteer Ajla Đulić.

This time as well, girls from the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, the Small Family Home in Blagovac, the Small Family Home in Marijin Dvor and the Small Family Home in Sokolović Kolonija stayed in Ledići. The house was once again filled with children’s laughter, joyful voices and the warmth that appears when children are given the space to simply be – children.
Ramadan days in Ledići were spent in shared prayer, learning, conversations and visits to taraweeh prayer at the mosque in Dejčići, which has become one of the most beautiful moments of every weekend spent here for many of the girls.

Iftar was prepared this time by Jasmina Hadžiosmanović, bringing great joy to the girls who eagerly waited for the call to prayer so they could sit together at the table. Her specialties quickly disappeared from the plates, while the atmosphere around the table was filled with laughter and stories.
During the day, the yard turned into a small world of children’s imagination. The girls invented their own games, created their little “rooms” outdoors, sat on blankets, played barbecue and cooking games and arranged small improvised corners for socializing and conversation. They also actively participated in cleaning and tidying the house and the yard.
Alongside play, they gladly took on small responsibilities, so they actively helped tidy the house and the yard, showing how much it means to them to care together for the space where they stay. Through these simple everyday activities, they learn cooperation, care for others and the joy of shared living.

At the Small Family Home in Ledići, they especially enjoyed playing with the cats, feeding and cuddling them. Many of the girls sat beside them in the yard for a long time, patiently calling them and making sure each one received its share of food.
Later they walked to the restaurant run by Nesib Muratović, where they played with his dogs – petting them, throwing a ball for them and watching them happily run across the meadow. Great joy was also brought by the chickens that the girls held in their arms, gently petting them and laughing at their reactions.
At one moment they even went on a small egg hunt, exploring the yard and the chicken coop. In the end they found several fresh eggs which they proudly took home with them – a small discovery and adventure that children today rarely have the chance to experience.
What makes these weekends in Ledići special is the fact that they are without screens, without mobile phones and without the virtual world. Instead, children rediscover what childhood should be – playing outdoors, nature, animals, conversations, laughter and togetherness.
Such moments are extremely important for children who have experienced loss, separation and different forms of trauma. Time in nature, movement, caring for animals and staying in a safe and warm environment helps them relax and develop a sense of belonging, confidence and trust in others.
In Ledići, children do not receive only a weekend outside the institution.
They receive space to breathe, to laugh, to be free and to once again feel what childhood looks like.
