For the first time since its establishment, the Small Family Home in Ledići was filled to full capacity today – down to the very last place. A total of 24 people, children and adults, stayed together in a space designed as a place of recovery, support, and togetherness for children without parental care and children from families at risk.

Children’s laughter filled both the house and the yard, while the warmth of the home was further enriched by the iftar prepared with care and love for everyone present by Muamera Ahmethodžić, caregiver from the Small Family Home in Sokolović Kolonija. Alongside the children from this home, the Ramadan evening in Ledići was also spent by children from other small family homes, as well as the Director of the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, Muhamed Musić, with his family, two volunteers of Foundation Second, together with the Foundation’s Director, Belma Mujezinović.

A special joy was the fact that most of the children were fasting, while many of them performed Dhuhr and Asr prayers during the day at the mosque in Dejčići – between preparing the iftar – and Isha and Tarawih prayers after the shared meal.

Director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, emphasized how meaningful it was for her to see the Small Family Home in Ledići filled to the last place:

“For the first time, I saw the Small Family Home in Ledići filled to full capacity – down to the last place. The space that we have been arranging and preparing for years for moments like this has finally fulfilled its true purpose – to provide children with a sense of belonging, togetherness, and the warmth of a home. Watching them fast, pray together, and take part in preparing the iftar was a special joy for me and a confirmation that, with Allah’s help and the support of our donors, we are building something that truly has meaning.”

This one-day visit and shared iftar once again showed how much it means to children to step away from their everyday institutional environment into a space that resembles a home – especially during the month of Ramadan.
