One year after the Small Family Home in the village of Ledići on Mount Bjelašnica opened its doors to children without parental care, children and young people with developmental difficulties, and other vulnerable groups in society, the facility has finally been fully secured with a modern video surveillance system.

Funds for the procurement and installation of the video surveillance system were provided through a transfer from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy for non-institutional care programmes. The security equipment was procured from Sword Security, further aligning the facility with the prescribed safety standards for premises accommodating the most vulnerable categories of users.
With the installation of modern security solutions, continuous oversight of the premises and an overall improvement in the level of protection have been ensured. Through this upgrade, the Small Family Home in Ledići has reached the safety standards prescribed for facilities accommodating the most vulnerable categories of users.
The Director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, emphasized that this represents an important step forward in the further development of the programme:
“Although the Small Family Home in Ledići was opened a year ago and has since been actively used within non-institutional care programmes, only now can we say that the facility is fully secured in a manner that corresponds to its purpose. We are grateful to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy for enabling stable operation and improved working conditions through the transfer for non-institutional care programmes, while recognizing that safety is the foundation of every recovery process, learning experience, and sense of home.”

The Small Family Home in Ledići is located in a house built back in 1922, which also holds special historical value as a monument of the National Liberation War, as a session of the Central Committee was held there. The facility was granted for use to the Cantonal Public Institution Home for Children Without Parental Care Sarajevo by the proBITRA Foundation for a period of 99 years, while Foundation Second, with the support of donors and partners, carried out thermal insulation works and partially equipped the space.
Today, this space hosts programmes of non-institutional care, rehabilitation, education, and stays in nature, with the aim of providing children and young people with the experience of living in a community and a family environment, instead of institutional accommodation.
Investment in security infrastructure represents an important step toward the long-term sustainable and safe operation of the Small Family Home in Ledići, and is yet another example of how systemic support can directly improve the quality of life of children and young people in alternative care.
