Foundation Second will support the promotion of the book “I Am Alen”, written by Alen Muhić – a human rights activist and member of the Association Forgotten Children of War. The book is a powerful testimony and an important contribution to understanding the legacy of wartime sexual violence.

After Goražde, where the author lives and works, the promotion will take place on September 8, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Bosnian Cultural Center Sarajevo.
To ensure that young people have the opportunity to attend this significant event, Foundation Second will provide transportation for 50 students from "Ćamil Sijarić" Elementary School in Dobrinja, where the Foundation itself is based. These 5th to 9th grade students will thus have the opportunity to take part in a program that promotes truth, human rights, and the fight against stigma.
The book as testimony and a message to generations
Alen Muhić was born in 1993 in the wartime hospital of Goražde, after his mother was raped and expelled from Foča. In his autobiographical work “I Am Alen”, he recounts his childhood, personal traumas, and the courage with which he advocates for human rights, especially the rights of children and women who survived wartime sexual violence.
It was precisely because of Alen’s courage that the United Nations adopted a resolution recognizing rape in war as a war crime, second in severity only to genocide.
“This book is not about condemnation, hatred, or division. It is a testimony and a call to build a society free of stigma, for the benefit of future generations,” the author emphasizes.
Promoters and organizers
Speakers at the Sarajevo promotion will include: Armin Omerović, Ermin Kuka, Esma Palić, and Ajna Jusić. The program will be moderated by Emela Burdžović, with media sponsors FENA, FTV, TVSA, Klix, RSG, and Antena Sarajevo.
The event is organized by the Association "Forgotten Children of War", Alen Muhić, and the Federal ministry of labor and social policy, in partnership with the Bosnian Cultural Center Sarajevo.
The role of Foundation Second
By providing transportation for students from Dobrinja, Foundation Second continues its mission to give children and young people opportunities for education, growth, and understanding of important social issues. With this gesture, the Foundation seeks to demonstrate that the strength of a community lies in supporting young people to learn from the painful but crucial experiences of our past.
