At the invitation of the organizers, the director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, today attended the event marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, organized by Homework HUB, the Public institution International center for children and youth Novo Sarajevo, and the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo.

The commemoration was held in the presence of high-ranking officials, institutional representatives, academia, and youth, with the aim of paying tribute to the victims in a dignified and educational manner, while highlighting the importance of a culture of remembrance. Among the speakers were: High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt, Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Municipality Prof. Dr. Benjamina Karić, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk, Prof. Dr. Ena Kazić - Čakar from the International University of Sarajevo, and Amina Mujkanović, a child survivor of Srebrenica.

In a solemn and dignified act of remembrance, students of the First Bosniak High School, together with Mayor Karić and Prime Minister Uk, read the names of the genocide victims, honoring their memory and underlining the importance of remembering each and every lost life.

A particularly emotional moment of the event was the screening of the documentary Life beyond the fields of death, produced in cooperation between the Srebrenica Memorial Center and BIRN BiH. Through the authentic testimonies of survivors, the film portrays the gravity of loss, life with trauma, and the pursuit of truth. The tears on many faces, the silence in the room, and the weight of emotion testified to the deep impact the testimonies had on the audience.

Attendees sent a clear message: the term "genocide" must become an integral part of the education system, and young people must be bearers of knowledge and peace. Continuous education, testimony, and truth-telling are essential to ensure that the truth is permanently recorded and crimes never forgotten. The message of this event was: Learn, remember, act – for the victims, for the families, for the youth, for us, for our future!

On behalf of Foundation Second, the statement by director Belma Mujezinović conveys the core message of our mission:
“Remembering the victims of the Srebrenica genocide is a moral and human obligation for all of us. It is especially important to pass the truth on to young people, to educate and empower them to nurture a culture of remembrance and to build a society based on justice and dignity. Foundation Second is deeply committed to this mission, because only through truth and collective action can we build a better future.”

The commemoration was part of the official program of the Srebrenica memorial center, supported by the Federal ministry of displaced persons and refugees, under the patronage of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
