For the past year, Foundation Second has been continuously supporting a family at social risk, providing the most basic necessity – a safe roof over their heads. Through regular payment of rent in the amount of 350 BAM per month, this family has gained the stability needed to stay together and allow the children to grow up in the warmth of their own home.

This is a five-member family with three children, two of whom are boys with mild developmental difficulties. The family is included in the Family and Child Support Service program of the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, through which their development, needs, and progress are continuously monitored.
Over the past three months, support for rent payments has been taken over by Stichting Amanet, once again confirming the strength of partnership and solidarity behind every successful story.
In addition to rent, Foundation Second has provided various forms of support – from regular food packages to meaningful donations such as 20 kg of meat provided by a donor. In the past period, furniture, clothing, as well as opportunities for children to participate in trips and camps have also been secured, offering them invaluable experiences and a break from everyday challenges.
What makes this family stand out is that this is the longest continuous cooperation Foundation Second has had with a single family. This relationship is not one-sided – it is based on trust, mutual support, and a desire to contribute to the community. Family members actively participate in cleaning and maintaining the Small Family Home in Ledići, giving back in their own way.
"This is a story of trust and togetherness. When you provide a family with security, they find the strength to move forward. We are especially encouraged by the way this family gives back, showing dignity and a genuine desire to be part of the community. These are the kinds of relationships that create lasting change," said Belma Mujezinović, Director of Fondacija Second.
The Head of the Family and Child Support Service at the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, Amina Pohara, emphasizes the importance of such interventions:
"Continuous support, especially in housing, is crucial for preserving the family and preventing the institutionalization of children. In this case, we clearly see how stability positively impacts children’s development and empowers parents to take a more active role in caring for their family."
How you can help
Although they have a strong will to work and care for their children, the parents currently have no stable income. Due to administrative and bureaucratic barriers, they are unable to secure permanent employment and rely on occasional daily work.
The father works in construction, taking on physically demanding jobs whenever possible, while the mother occasionally cleans and maintains apartments. In addition, they collect and resell items found at waste sites, giving them new value and generating a modest additional income.
If you need help clearing basements, attics, or similar spaces, by engaging this family you are not only receiving a service – you are also doing a meaningful good deed. Anything that can be reused will be restored and sold, helping them earn with dignity.
We invite everyone who is able to support the continuation of rent payments for this family, so that together we can provide them with what matters most – a safe home and a childhood without fear of losing it.
