The director of Foundation Second, Belma Mujezinović, together with the Mobile team of the Family and child support service of the Cantonal public institution Home for children without parental care Sarajevo, recently visited an extraordinary woman — a grandmother who is raising her grandson after his mother abandoned him.

Because of difficult life circumstances, the boy spent half a year in the Home while the necessary procedures for his reintegration into biological relatives were completed. When he was finally returned to his grandmother, the doors of her home — and her heart — were wide open. Since then, she has cared for him with remarkable dedication, warmth, and patience.
Although she lives on a modest pension, this grandmother takes on occasional work — all to ensure her grandson has a better childhood, security, and the sense of belonging he waited so long to feel.
Humble, hardworking, and proud, she never asks for anything.
That is why the moment we handed her a food package — filled mostly with sweets for the boy, of course — was especially emotional. With sincere surprise in her voice, she said:
“I’m not used to anyone giving me anything. I’ve worked my whole life and earned everything myself.”
These simple words carry the strength of a generation taught to fight, to manage on their own, and to turn care into love — without expectations and without complaint.
Foundation Second and the Mobile team of the Home will continue supporting this family — so that the boy can grow up in the safety, love, and peace that this wonderful grandmother gives him every single day.
Thank you to all donors and friends of Foundation Second who make it possible for us to stand by those who need support the most. Every smile is worth the effort.
