Three days spent at the Small Family Home in Ledići once again demonstrated how valuable time in nature can be for children without parental care. Girls from the Sarajevo Public Institution for Children Without Parental Care, together with girls from the Small Family Homes in Sokolović Kolonija, Blagovac and Marijin Dvor, spent three unforgettable days filled with learning, work, play and friendship.

Throughout their stay, they were accompanied by Foundation Second's Director Belma Mujezinović and a Foundation volunteer, a pedagogy student and beneficiary of the Sumero Alliance, who took part in all daily activities alongside the girls.
One of the highlights of their stay was working in the garden. The girls helped cultivate the soil, harvested fresh vegetables grown over the previous months, planted new crops and learned how the food we eat every day is produced. Every harvested vegetable represented the result of teamwork and provided an opportunity to talk about the value of effort, patience and caring for nature.

The stay in Ledići also offered an opportunity to learn everyday life skills in the kitchen. The girls helped prepare lunch, took part in cooking and together baked homemade bread made from spelt, buckwheat, rye and other whole grains. The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the entire house, and many of the girls were tasting this type of bread for the first time. Delighted by its flavour, they proudly enjoyed the bread they had made themselves while learning the importance of wholesome, homemade food.

The girls especially enjoyed spending time with the cats living in Ledići. They played with them, cared for them and learned about responsible treatment of animals. Their days were also filled with time spent with local children, as laughter, games and new friendships brought the yard of the Small Family Home to life.
No stay in Ledići would be complete without walks through the village. The girls visited the nearby waterfall, explored the natural beauty of Bjelašnica and discovered the surrounding area every day. One of the most memorable moments was visiting their neighbour Meho Kustura, where they met cows and sheep while listening with great interest to stories about life in the mountains and maintaining a traditional rural household.
Every day was filled with activities that brought children closer to nature while fostering a sense of responsibility, togetherness and respect for people, animals and the environment.
A special place during their stay was also given to the spiritual dimension of growing up. The girls regularly performed their daily prayers together at the Small Family Home in Ledići in an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect and gratitude. During their stay they also visited the mosque in Dejčići, where they prayed together, met members of the local community and spent time in an environment that nurtures a sense of belonging, humility and spiritual connection. These shared moments further strengthened their sense of togetherness and created opportunities to talk about the values that guide them in everyday life.

These experiences represent the very essence of the Small Family Home in Ledići, which Foundation Second operates in partnership with the Sarajevo Public Institution for Children Without Parental Care. The goal is not merely to provide children with a few days of rest, but to offer meaningful experiences through which they develop practical life skills, build healthy work habits, strengthen their self-confidence and create a sense of belonging.
When a child plants a seedling, harvests vegetables they have grown themselves, feeds an animal, helps a friend, gets to know neighbours and ends the day in the warmth of a welcoming home, they create memories that last far longer than a simple trip. These are the moments that build security, independence and the confidence that every child deserves a place where they feel loved, accepted and valued.
Foundation Second extends its heartfelt gratitude to all friends, volunteers and donors whose trust and support make it possible for the Small Family Home in Ledići to continue, year after year, as a place of growth, learning and a happy childhood for children without parental care.
