In Ledići, the sound of a saw was heard again — not as a sign of cutting down, but of care. On the land that the Small Family Home will use for agricultural and occupational activities, in agreement with the Probitra Foundation, the arborist Irhad Delahmetović — a friend of children and nature — returned once more.

This time, he did not come alone. He came with his family.
The house built back in 1922, together with its accompanying buildings and land, which the Probitra Foundation granted for use to the Home for Children Without Parental Care Sarajevo for 99 years, is slowly becoming a place where children learn about life — not only through words, but through touching the soil, trees, and work itself.
Three Apple Trees and a Century-Old Story
During this visit, the arborist pruned branches and removed mistletoe from three apple trees. One of them is estimated to be at least one hundred years old.

A tree that has survived generations is now getting a new chance — to bear fruit again, to be healthy, and to show children what renewal truly means.
Mistletoe, which drains the tree’s strength, was carefully removed, and dry and diseased branches were pruned. Every cut was a lesson in patience and respect for nature.
Courage That Spreads
The arborist’s sons brought special warmth to this action. They showed remarkable adventurous spirit and courage — climbing the trees with their father, safely yet confidently, like young explorers.

Their energy and bravery inspired a boy from the Small Family Home in Sokolović Kolonija, who was staying in Ledići during those days with educators and other children.
Encouraged by their example, he climbed the tree and, together with the arborist, pruned one branch. That moment was not just work on a tree — it was a moment of trust, overcoming fear, and realizing, “I can do this.”
Nothing Is Wasted — Everything Has a Purpose
Older boys and girls helped collect and sort the branches. After the mistletoe was removed, the wood can later be used for heating or for a barbecue.
This way, children learn another important lesson: in nature, just as in life, nothing is wasted without reason.
A Shared Effort
All activities were organized by Foundation Second, and the arborist once again donated his work. Free of charge. From the belief that knowledge becomes even more valuable when shared.
In Ledići, it is not only the land that is being nurtured. Courage, work habits, connection with nature, and a sense of belonging are being nurtured too.
The old apple trees have been pruned. But what is truly growing — are the children.
