The Service for Family and Child Support of the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, with the support of Foundation Second, has successfully completed another process of reintegrating six children into their biological family.

This involved five children who had been staying at the Home for Children without Parental Care Sarajevo, as well as one 12-year-old girl who had been placed in the Cantonal Juvenile Correctional Center solely due to a lack of capacity at the Home, and not as a result of any imposed educational or corrective measure.
Over the past two months, the children resided in these alternative care institutions while the competent services, in cooperation with Foundation Second, worked intensively to create all the necessary conditions for their safe and sustainable return to their biological family.

During this period, with the support of Foundation Second, the family was provided with essential living necessities – a washing machine, stove, refrigerator, and heating fuel – while burglar-resistant doors are currently in the final stage of installation. In addition, the Foundation committed to providing regular food support to the family over the next six months, ensuring that the mother would not be forced to leave the children alone while working at the market, thereby directly contributing to the stability and safety of the children within their family environment.
In the coming period, the enrollment of the younger children in preschool education is also planned, in order to relieve the older children who have often assumed responsibility for caring for their younger family members.
“Reintegrating children into their family is a process that must be carefully planned and closely monitored. In this case, the support of Foundation Second was of exceptional importance, as it enabled the fulfillment of the material and safety conditions required for the children’s return. It is particularly important to emphasize that the girl who stayed at the Juvenile Correctional Center was placed there solely due to a lack of space at the Home. Today, she too is returning to a family environment,” emphasized Amina Pohara, Head of the Service for Family and Child Support.

This process once again confirms how important it is to strengthen families and develop non-institutional forms of support, in order to prevent prolonged stays of children in institutions when there are no justified reasons for such placement.
“The return of children to their family requires a serious, coordinated, and responsible approach. Our focus is not only on bringing children back home, but on creating conditions that allow them to remain in their family. In cooperation with the Service for Family and Child Support, Foundation Second assumed part of the responsibility to ensure stability for the family in the period following the children’s return,” stated Belma Mujezinović, Director of Foundation Second.
Foundation Second continues to provide support to families at risk, with the goal of ensuring that no child is separated from their family solely due to poverty or the lack of basic living conditions.
We invite all those who wish to take part in these efforts and contribute to preventing the separation of children from their parents to support the programs of Foundation Second, so that the family remains where it belongs – at the forefront. Donations can be made with the reference "Families at Risk", ensuring that the funds are allocated specifically to this group of beneficiaries.
